Turkey Tail Quill Wing for Hopper
There are many different materials that can be used for hopper wings. Hair, woodduck, hen saddle hackle and many more. I like the turkey tail for rigidity and coloration.

Start with thread hanging at body tie in point. |

Take a section of turkey quill and trim the edge to a pointed shape.

| Hold quill section on top of hook shank with trimmed tip pointing rearward to get length. | ![]() |
| Leave wing in place and change hands. | ![]() |
| Make a loose wrap of thread over wing material. | ![]() |
| Make another. | ![]() |

| Tighten thread down hard. | ![]() |
| Trim excess wing material | ![]() |

| Secure wing with heavy thread wraps in a forward direction. | ![]() |

| Leave thread hanging close to hook eye. | ![]() |
